JOB DESCRIPTION FOR FULL-TIME PASTOR AT ROSLYN PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
The Roslyn Presbyterian Church, located in Roslyn, New York (Long Island) and nestled in beautiful Roslyn Pond (Gerry) Park, seeks a pastor for our small but caring and vibrant congregation. We require a dynamic, visionary leader with an engaging personality, whose love of preaching and teaching will transform the lives of the congregants and those interested in joining the church. We are looking for a pastor who can make people appreciate the role of Christianity in every day personal and professional life.
The minister will be responsible for creating Sunday worship services with sermon, and appropriate hymn selections. The organist, in collaboration with the pastor, will strive for thematic continuity with anthem offerings.
We are expecting the pastor to be engaged in Pastoral care and guidance, whether formally through Bible Study or Youth focused activities, but also in one-on-one relationships with the congregation, showing genuine concern through personal presence, attentive listening, and compassion. This includes being accessible to members during after service coffee hour, visiting those who are sick, injured, homebound, or grieving, and offering comfort, encouragement, and guidance during difficult times.
The Pastor will lead and direct the Session, comprised of our active board of volunteers who help manage the finances, buildings and grounds, cemetery, nurturing and mission work. The board is led by the Clerk of Session. We also have paid positions including a Sexton and office manager, who will be supervised by the new minister.
We share our church with the Kalam Church, which is Taiwanese and they rent space on Sundays. We also have a nursery school/daycare organization and a cemetery that are connected with the church. The Pastor will liaise with these groups, but they have their own management teams.
We are looking for a compassionate, charismatic, energetic pastor, who will deliver sermons that inspire and compel the congregation to recommend our church to others. We seek someone who embodies warmth, character, genuineness, and a sense of humor to foster authentic connections and spiritual growth.
The ideal candidate will be adept at handling the responsibilities above and talented at helping the church engage the 21st century Roslyn and surrounding communities and increase membership by finding those who could benefit from our worship and fellowship. This talent may be found in a person with little or much experience or training. Although we prefer a few years of experience, we are open to considering an otherwise outstanding candidate with less experience.
The salary is $95,000 with full benefits for family. The salary includes the cost of housing in the church owned manse, but living in the manse is not required.
The First Presbyterian Church of Mineola is looking for an Organist/Pianist. This position will be for a musician who will work with the worship committee to play the organ for our weekly services. We predominantly sing traditional hymns from our hymnal but we are open to learn new songs to Praise God. Our Sunday service is 9:30-10:45am which allows another congregation to start their service at 11am. If you are interested, please email Elder Selwyn Lee: lejaceman@yahoo.com so we can set up an interview. Thanks.
